38: Lord Byron Was Apparently A Bit of a Rock Star

Why does this matter? It doesn't really except that while designing the label for Capricho Oscuro I decided to include a little snippet from Byron's Darkness. Primarily because it just fit the beer, considering said beer is comprised of 5 different dark brews. If you have never read Darkness there ya go. It's actually a solidly creepy piece from a great poet though I prefer De La Mare's The Listeners when I really want to feel creeped out.

Then Monday morning I was reading my google alert for "ale" when I stumbled upon this headline:

Lord Byron’s racy life of bling, booze and groupie sex revealed

Cool. Apparently Byron got the chicks in addition to a few greek boys as he wasn't really constrained by gender when it came to getting his freak on. He was also a bit of a pretty boy and liked his clothes to stand out from the crowd. I can't get the link to imbed, so you'll just have to do it the old fashioned way if you want to read more:

I especially like the part where he allegedly beds 200 women in 2 years in Venice. Not bad, but Wilt Chamberlain isn't impressed.  I know this isn't the typical update, but as Byron was fabulously wealthy and allegedly spent ridiculous sums on ale he seems like he would have been into craft beer.
