52: (Mostly) Final Beer Label Designs and the Winner of the Name our Beer Contest

First posted design for the limited release 110K+OT series. If you don't know what the name refers to it is basically an inside joke from ratebeer.com and you should immediately go to ratebeer.com and create a thread in which you ask--no demand--that you be told what it means. If no one responds just keep making threads till they do.

Big Sound Scotch Ale. No real changes here.

Also pretty much as the last version.

Final Guava Grove design.

Gregory looks like a tough customer.

The Humidor Series.

Warmer Winter, Winter Warmer.

Once again we love feedback and if you love them, or detest them, we want to hear about it.

Now without further ado I present to you the winner of our "Name Our Beer" Contest. Ok, no, wait I have some more ado. I just wanted to say we got some amazing entries and we will probably use some of the names you guys provided on future beers, with due credit of course, as they really were very cool entries. You guys have a feel for Tampa's history and culture and the theme we are going for here at CCB and that really shone through.

Alas, there can be only one and that one is, Greg Cotner of Brandon, Florida. Greg won with his entry of: Bolita Brown. Greg will receive a case of Bolita Brown, an assortment of CCB swag and of course recognition for his winning entry on each and every bottle of Bolita Brown Ale that we brew. Congrats, Greg. For those of you wondering who or what the heck a Bolita is, this is Bolita.

And now without further ado ado, here is the label art for Greg's winning entry:

Again, congrats, Greg and thank you to everyone who submitted entries. The response was better than we could have imagined. Hopefully we can do this again in the future.

Cheers,
Joey Redner

Congrats Greg for winning, it's IMO the best name for the beer. And the 110K label is funny as hell.

I just looked at the labels for the first time, and I think they are quite eye-catching. I really like how you have included beer descriptions on each label. That always annoys me when I come across an interesting brew, but then the brewer fails to give any hint of what sort of beer might be inside the bottle.

Some things that stood out during my first impressions of the labels:
    (1) I noticed a lot of grammatical errors in the descriptions. (Let me be the first one to say that I'm no English major, and I certainly make my fair share of grammatical errors.) I'm assuming these are still rough drafts, but make sure you have a knowledgeable person proof-read the labels before you go to print. These labels will be the only contact you'll ever have with many of your customers. They represent you and your brewery, and you want to make sure you present a professional image.
    (2) I don't care for the font style and black text used for "Big Sound Scotch Ale" on the Big Sound label. The black color of the text gets sort of lost in the background of the label, and the name/text doesn't "pop". Also the "B" in Big is quite odd. The bottom, unattached, floating curve of the B is weird. Actually, when I first saw the label, I initially read it as "Pig Sound". I would definitely tweak that area.
    (3) This one's pretty minor, but one of the "B's" on the Bolita Brown label is upside-down compared to all of the others. (It's the B in Double.) From an aesthetic point of view, I can understand why the "A's" in Bolita and Ale are not consistent. However, the lone upside-down B seems out of place.
    (4) I'm not a big fan of the 110K+OT label. The gold chain/medallion has a cheap, photoshop, cut-n-paste look to it. Now, maybe that was the intention? I'm not in on the joke so I'm not sure. All I know is that (as an outside observer) I feel it looks cheesy.
    (5) I really like the Guava Grove label. It has a very classy and artistic look to it. I also like the Jai Alai IPA label. First of all, that's a fantastic name. Second, I really like how the player is hurling the hop cone out toward the viewer. Nice!

Well, those were my immediate thoughts upon first viewing the labels. I just wanted to give you some constructive criticism. Feel free to use it as you like or totally ignore it.

    Oh, I forgot to say...
The descriptions of the beers sound great. I can't wait to try your brews.

    Cheers!
