65: Cigar City Brewing Construction Update
Things are progressing very well. At one point we had three separate companies all working at once. It was a thing of a beauty. The electric lines are being run and the power boxes installed. Our cooler is also being erected. If things stay on schedule we should make our revised target date of February. I'm posting tons of pics of the work progressing so everyone can see that progress being made isn't just a figment of our imaginations:

The other job going on while the electric was being run was the cooler install. The first part of the job involved making a small mountain out of the Styrofoam that the cooler panels came in. All of you that have come by to help us move these things will have an idea of just how much Styrofoam we are talking about. It's enough that me and Wayne may try to make a home made cooler box with the leftovers.

With the panels unpacked the crew focused on sorting them so that they would be ready to move into place:

The panels are 16 foot tall and unwieldy as hell. But they actually install very easily. There is simple hook and bar system. You use an allen wrench to turn a hook that is inside the panel and it closes on the bar latch inside. Once sorted they go together pretty easy:

The hook latches onto the bar in the plastic inset above by turning the hook mechanism as in the pic below:
The crew got the back part of the cooler started first:

This is just the back half which we will use as a 20 ft long, 16 ft high, 6 ft wide cellar room, kept at 55 degrees for aging vintage beers to release as prepackaged verticals, some barrels and anything else we feel like stashing away for later. It took most of the day to get the panels sorted and the cellar partition in place. So 24 feet of length remain to be installed, plus the roof. Work will resume on the cooler on Monday while electric continues tomorrow. It has been a long day, but things are taking shape and I think I can speak for Wayne when I say that we can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Cheers,
Joey Redner
