83: Tasting Room Update
It seems demand for our beers is really starting to build. And it seems a bottled product is what people want. So we are working to make that happen. Unfortunately our bottler is still nowhere near functioning so what we will be doing is offering 32 oz mini-growler's for sale at the tasting room. We are getting quotes to get the tasting room completed and I hope to have it ready in a month or so.
Our core beers will sell for around $8.99 ($2.50 for the growler bottle, so refills would be $6.49) but the exact price is not yet set. Seasonals will vary in price. The tasting room will be open for tours and for to-go sales from 11 AM to 5 PM monday thru Friday. In addition to these hours we'll have up to 4 scheduled events a month. They may be special releases or just themed events. During these events we will feature on-premise consumption as well as to-go sales.
This is basically being moved to the front of the list to meet demand for a bottled product and since we really don't have the income right now to get everything we need for the bottler to run at full speed, it is the best most low-tech and inexpensive option.
Just to recap:
Tasting Room Hours will be 11AM to 5PM M-F. To-go sales and samples only.
Special events/releases will be up to 4 times a month and will include on premise and off premise sales.
We are shooting for April 16th to have the tasting room open.

I have the feeling that a growler is not the bottled product everyone is after. While I think growler sales are a great idea, bottles on the shelves of stores is what everyone is after.

This is the best compromise of the current bottling situation.

I know it isn't what everyone wants. But to do it right we need about another 60K. We wont do it wrong (which could lead to an unstable product) so that leaves option B, growlers.

Growlers are the best way to purchase fresh beer. Is there any progress in allowing Florida brewers to sell 64oz or 1L growlers?

Not currently. There was a discussion at the Florida Brewer's Guild meeting this year about attempting to change the legislation this year but it will require much effort and planning. Currently, the state of Florida is somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% brewpubs. Those brewpubs are the ones that are really being hurt by the legislation. All the micros that are wet zoned can sell growlers and aren't affected by the law (with the only exception being the size of the container). I personally would like to sit on a formal committee with the rest of the guild members in order to determine a possible strategy that would hold water but I can't stand on that panel alone. We need Florida beer consumers to voice their opinions as well. We also need the brewpubs to do their part because, like I said, it really benefits them the most since the micros can already legally sell growlers.

Growlers are a great way to go. I have 6 empties at home with no where to use them. (Other than my own beer) My understanding is growlers aren't allowed period, regardless of size. Am I wrong about this?

32oz and below is acceptable and 128oz and above is allowed. We will start with the 32oz size and may decide to incorporate the 128oz in the future for our core beers.

Joey, you guys just keep up the good work and making great beer. We're just happy to see it in the bars finally. The Orlando crew will be sending people over weekly for a stack of growlers! Just don't forget us (Redlight) when you make some special small batch.

28.1 cents per ounce by the growler, but
20.1 cents per ounce by bottle?
A penalty for buying more?

That is $2.50 for the growler bottle. I wasn't clear. I do wonder a little how you came up with a per ounce price though since, if you assumed I meant a bottle size smaller than 32 oz, you couldn't have known the exact size of that bottle.
We will be using multiple bottle formats when we do bottle, but no prices have been discussed.
