99: Big Sound Scotch Ale Bottles Are Hitting The Shelves...
Our first ever bottled product is starting to hit retail shelves. Big Sound Scotch Ale is bottle conditioned and comes in a 750 ml (25.4 ounce) capped bottle. Whole Foods Tampa (just north of I-275 on Dale Mabry) is the closest Tampa Bay location to the brewery to carry a CCB bottled product. Which fits right into Whole Food's unwavering support of local producers. Chris, the specialty brand manager at the Dale Mabry Whole Foods has been very supportive of our brewing endeavors, going as far as to help us bottle!
The Tampa Bay area allotment of Big Sound Scotch Ale was limited to 70 cases. Whole Foods has it priced at $12.99 per bottle, with a 10% discount if you buy a mixed six. You can also find it in Brandon at Kingdom Liquors for the same price. I'll add more locations as I become aware of them.
On the tasting room front the floors were being sealed and painted today in the classic brewery grey. I didn't have my camera with me to snap a pic, but it looks good and much more official than the plain concrete we had before. The restrooms and floors in the tasting room are done and the rail seperating the tasting room from the brewery is nearly complete.
Beer sales have gone smashingly. We sold 54% more beer in April than we did in March and with bottled product available it opens new outlets. In fact we need to buy more 5 gal kegs immediately and I suspected we wouldn't need more for 6 months or so. Early ratings of our core beers and our first seasonal Bolita Double Nut Brown Ale have been very positive on all the major beer rating websites. But more importantly local drinkers have responded almost universally favorably to the product and we have had only 1 returned keg of all the product we sent out and that was due to a faulty keg.
As I mentioned in a previous update we've already got our next bottle release conditioning. 110K+OT Batch #2 (I.R.I.S.) should be ready to ship to our distributors on May 18th and we'll be brewing Guava Grove (Saison brewed with Guava) next week. That's all for now.
Cheers,
Joey R.

I have enjoyed each of the three CCB beers I have tried. On tap, they were of high quality and good value. However, I bought the Big Sound Scotch Ale at Whole Foods and thought the $12.99 per bottle price was too high. Any idea what the price range will be for bottles of CCB beers going forward?

John,
Our seasonals will vary in price. The Scotch Ale is a pricey one, but we feel it is for a good reason. Big Sound Scoth ale is very limited (70 cases for all of the bay area) and it is a fairly high alcohol beer. The price is reflective of those factors.
Our latest bottle release, 110K+OT Batch #2 at 11.5% abv is even higher in alcohol content than Big Sound and is a very expensive brew to make. It is also $12.99. Both fall into our highest pricing tier and both are quite limited, meant to be occasional treats, not every day purchases.
We feel like the price is fair, but if you think it is too much to pay we fully understand and hope you continue to enjoy our other products.
And you'll be happy to know many of our other limited/seasonal 750ml offerings will be cheaper, under the $10 range or less. For example our next seasonal release Guava Grove, a Belgian-style Saison-like beer, brewed with Guava is projected to be in the $9 range.
Cheers,
Joey
