107: First Week of Growler Sales, 1 Gallon Growler Pics...tasting Bourbon Barrel Aged Bolita....

Well the first week of growler sales is under our belt. Today the two Jay's from Orlando came and bought TWENTY FIVE growlers. I wish I'd had my camera because seeing them all lined up was a sight to behold. I don't mind telling you it takes some time to fill 25 growlers in a row, but I was treated to La Terisita afterwards which is a hell of a tasty tip to get!

It was far and away our heaviest day of growler sales. We sold around 60 growlers today alone. Not bad for only being open 6 hours a day and that while most folks are still working. I even got some photo art from a fellow named Bart who's buddy picked up a gallon growler. Since I haven't taken a pic myself I thought I'd show off some of Bart's handiwork:

I'm going to have to order my growlers on Monday. A good problem though!

Since it was a long day I thought I'd treat myself to the only short fill we had of Bourbon Barrel Aged Bolita. It has already picked up some soft carbonation. This is a first time use Maker's Mark barrel so the bourbon is quite prominent in the aroma and flavor profile. If you like bourbon this first batch of barrel aged Bolita will be heaven. If you don't like bourbon you might find it to be too much as it is definitely present in stronger concentrations than the vanilla and oak notes the barrel also imparted. The big malt flavors of regular Bolita are still present with subtle chocolate and cherry notes slipping in around the middle flavor ranges. It finishes with a fairly strong booze kick. This is definitely one that is going to be at its best in a year or two, but is ready to go now for those who prefer a forward bourbon presence. I like bourbon flavor, a lot, so I'm pretty happy as I write this and sip on my Bolita.

One of the things I do to keep my beer geek side seperate from my beer business owner side is that I always pay for Cigar City Beer out of my own pocket and I always buy retail when I can rather than just setting aside product for myself at the brewery. Beer shopping and hunting has always been part of the fun for me. Well, this barrel aged Bolita is one I'll happily be buying the full allotment of.

Cheers,
Joey Redner
